7 Important Edmonds CC Health Bulletin
Important Edmonds CC Health Bulletin

We hope this email finds you well. We would like to share with you some important information about the coronavirus. Below please find the official email that the Office of the President sent out to our campus community yesterday.  We would like to reassure you that at this time, our campus is safe and free from the virus. No cases have been reported.

___________

January 27, 2020 | Office of the President

Hello Triton community,

We are providing the following information because the health of the Triton community is a top priority at Edmonds Community College.

According to the Snohomish Health District, a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in Snohomish County was announced on Jan. 21. The Snohomish County man with the virus had recently traveled to Wuhan, China.

About the 2019 novel coronavirus

The 2019 novel coronavirus, or 2019-nCoV, is a new respiratory virus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China that is known to cause mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.

According to the health district, there is much still to learn about the virus; however, they state that the immediate threat to the general American public is considered low. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention are closely monitoring the outbreak caused by the novel coronavirus. Multiple cases have been confirmed in the U.S., as well as in other countries.

Symptoms of the virus include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing

If you think you have the novel coronavirus

If you have recently traveled to Wuhan, China or mainland China and have developed fever with cough or shortness of breath within 14 days of your travel, or have had contact with someone who is suspected to have 2019 novel coronavirus, stay home and contact your health care provider.

Important: Before seeing your health care provider, be sure to tell them about your symptoms and/or close contact with someone who is confirmed to have, or being evaluated for, 2019-nCoV infection. This will help the health care providers office take steps to keep other people from getting infected. Ask your health care provider to call the local or state health department.

To prevent the spread of viruses

The CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Stay home when you are sick so others aren't exposed to your illness.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover you mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze and immediately throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

We understand that students who are experiencing increased anxiety or stress related to concerns about family in China may seek support from one of the following offices:

Edmond Community College - 2019 Spring + б ݶ
We are excited to share with you our Spring 2019 Newsletter.
11 16 ̻ л .
16 ̻ л .

We are pleased to let you know that, in response to the interest
expressed by students, parents and agencies, Edmonds Community College
will again accept applications for all quarters from 16 year old students without any
English test score required. Also, for Fall 2015, our deadline for
ALL applications is August 10, for any student.

Thank you for your patience and your continued interest in Edmonds
Community College. We have listened to the needs you expressed and we
believe that we will continue to provide a great learning environment
for all our students by again welcoming all 16 year old students to
our campus. As before, students must be 16 by the 10th business day of the
quarter start.

12 16 л ̻ .
16 л ̻ .
In order to better serve our students, Edmonds Community College has decided, effective September 2015 (Fall Quarter), to raise the minimum age to attend the college to 17 years. We will no longer accept 16-year-old international students.

We feel that this a student centered decision, and will allow us to give all students the option of living in our residence halls, and to direct and focus our advising and instruction towards college success.

We will continue to accept 17 year old students into our High School Completion Program.
13 2015.1б
2015.1б
Our college has experienced an increase in the number of international students who have enrolled at the college for Fall Quarter, 2014. In addition, we have already received an unusually large number of applications from students for our Intensive English as a Second Language Program for Winter Quarter, 2015. Because of this increase, we are not able to accept any further applications for students who want to enroll in Intensive English as a Second Language courses for Winter Quarter, 2015.

I am very sorry that our college cannot accept new applications for Intensive English as a Second Language courses for Winter Quarter 2015, but we have made this decision because it is important to us that we are be able to provide the best possible instruction and services to our students. However, I want to assure you that we are still accepting applications for our Intensive English as a Second Language Program for Spring , Summer and Fall Quarters, 2015.

English Proficiency Required for Winter 2015

If you have students who want to enroll in our High School to University or College-level programs for Winter Quarter, 2015 and who have achieved one of the minimum scores listed below within the last year, we still require that all application documents, including an OFFICIAL copy of their test scores, arrive in our office by the December 12, 2014 deadline.

1. CAMBRIDGE – First Certificate Grades A,B,C

2. EIKEN (Step Eiken) – Pre-1st Level

3. ELS Program – Level 109

4. IELTS - 5.0 Overall (5.0 in each band)

5. ITEP – Level 4

6. Pearson Test of English (PTE) – score of 42

7. TOFEL - IBT 55

For your Transfer-In student, their application documents, including an OFFICIAL copy of one of the above test scores, must also arrive in our office by the December 12, 2014 deadline.

If your student has not taken one of the tests listed above, please have them contact our Admissions staff at issadmissions@edcc.edu to arrange a time to take our English and Math Placement tests before December 12, 2014.
