As we approach October 31, the proposed date when the UK will leave the EU, in order to reassure any EU or Swiss Citizens who are planning to study and work in the UK, or are currently there, LSI would like to highlight the following UK Government's advice.

This summer saw the launch of our highly successful summer residential programme for juniors on the Abbey College Campus in Cambridge. Whilst LSI does offer language classes to younger juniors (6-11 years) at other LSI locations, the LSI Cambridge programme is unique in offering the full programme including accommodation and afternoon activities to students as young as 9. Unsurprisingly the programme proved highly popular. We decided to capture all the fun on video and in photos.

High level IELTS scores are accepted by universities in these countries as proof of English language proficiency and are often a prerequisite for international students enrolling on degree courses.

The NZQA is the government agency in New Zealand dedicated to monitoring the quality of education in the private tertiary sector. After a highly successful inspection by NZQA at our Auckland school back in April, LSI is proud to say we have retained our Category 1 status.
In the NZQA External Evaluation and Review, it was noted: "LSI Auckland uses a thorough system of evaluation and analysis to support the academic achievement of international students. An emphasis on providing strong support and pastoral care results in high satisfaction as expressed in student feedback."
This was similar feedback to the English New Zealand Audit in March, in which LSI was awarded two commendations for pastoral care and evaluation of student progress.

The Bay Area Book Festival, the second largest literary festival in the US, takes place every year in May in Berkeley. The streets of the downtown area come alive with book stalls, pop up food outlets, street entertainers and the many indoor and outdoor venues staging over a 100 shows.
Ensuring the smooth running of such a huge event inevitably relies on good community support. Both this year's event organisers and the City Mayor have praised LSI staff and students for the contribution they made towards the successful running of the 2019 festival. For some students volunteering for the festival had an added benefit.
Some say that the British have an obsession about the weather, infact they love nothing better than to talk about it. Whether that's true or not, the English language certainly has an extensive vocabulary for describing it. Did you know, for example, that the Scots have 421 words for snow, more than the Eskimos!

As a long-term resident and language teacher at LSI Boston, Marcella Haddad knows the city extremely well. With the start of the junior summer camps around the corner, this month's newsletter features our ever popular junior summer courses. We include the latest from LSI Vancouver and LSI Independent Sixth Form College plus a new video of the College. The start of the summer junior camps is fast approaching and our courses are filling up fast. Demand has been high, so much so in Brighton that we've extended the course dates, with the last starting date now being the 19th August.

LSI Vancouver hosted a number of educational travel agents in its new location at 806 Homer Street last week, on 24th April, the day before the ICEF workshop. The agents got a brief introduction by Suji Jeong, admin manager, and Kevin Keeler, Director of Studies, about the way LSI Vancouver operates: the courses offered, details about the predominant nationalities in the school, and some useful tips. After the briefing, the agents were shown around in the new LSI Vancouver school.
The school received positive feedback about the amount of natural light pouring into the classrooms; the spacious common area with a kitchenette, and the friendly atmosphere.
After the tour of the school, the group of agents had lunch in the nearby Glowbal restaurant, and went on a sightseeing tour of Vancouver.

A-level student Afton McKeith-Magazine was invited to a very special award ceremony organised by CIFE and held at the House of Lords, inside the iconic UK Parliament building. A trully unique and magical experience!
