We'd like to take a moment to say hello and to provide you the latest information from the University of Delaware English Language Institute (UD ELI).
The following information comes from President Assanis's July 22 academic update:
- Most of the courses this fall will be delivered online. Some classes that require face-to-face instruction may be held in person with proper safety protocols in place.
- For new international students, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) requires some in-person experience in order to be eligible for a visa or to enter the country. At this time, the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) interprets the regulation to mean that new international students will need at least one class that requires some level of physical presence. This is an on-going situation that is being monitored closely.
Here at the ELI we made providing high quality online instruction our #1 priority. You can be certain that online classes will have the same level of interaction and engagement for our students as the in-person variety provides.
As Dr. Nigel Caplan explains in the article linked below, the ELI wants to serve students well through its approach to online learning. "Here at the University of Delaware ELI, our faculty have been busy improving our skills in integrating synchronous and asynchronous instruction. Our new ELI Online courses, which launch in Summer and Fall 2020, feature a strategic blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning, combining the benefits of each mode." Read the full article here.
Finally, LinkedIn is an excellent platform for the ELI to continue positioning itself as a leader in the field of English language instruction, and to that end, our faculty members have been writing some great articles on LinkedIn to offer their insights on online learning. We encourage you to share these articles with prospective students.
