We still have a good number of students and they are still from all over the world
News from NZ.
The Australian bubble opened last month and it has helped the tourism industry and retail in some centres quite a lot.
There has also just been an announcement that New Zealand will start another travel bubble with the Cook Islands.
We can see the start of a post Covid life with this.
We hope that more countries also soon might have a bubble with New Zealand.
We also have received our vaccination plans from the Government for the general population and they should be starting soon.
The big hope I believe for us all, is that as most of the world gets vaccinated, we can start to get back to our normal life.
These new travel bubbles have also opened up a lot more space in our Managed Isolation Hotels. We hope that the Government might allow for more international students to come earlier this year and stay in one of these hotels for 2 weeks before starting their course.
We had a couple of birthday parties at school last week. One for a student and one for a teacher.

"Opening up borders at the end of the year would coincide with a completion of the (vaccine) roll-out", Ardern said.
So, it looks like these terrible times of Covid -19 is coming to an end, hopefully by the end of this year.
We are ready for the NEW days!
As you know New Zealand has done very well dealing with Covid-19. We had very few cases, very few deaths and for most of the time we had a normal life in New Zealand - just the borders were closed for non-New Zealanders.
In addition, here at Worldwide School, we have also worked hard, done well, and managed to keep ourschool running, with good numbers of students.
So, we think that the BEST option for students as soon as it is possible, is to come to New Zealand and to come to Worldwide School!
As you can see above - our Prime Minister has said that by the end of the year, New Zealand should be safely vaccinated, and we will be able to open our borders to anyone (who is also vaccinated most likely).
New Zealand is likely to be a VERY popular choice, because of how well our country has done compared to many other countries around the world. We expect high demand from agents and students around the world, once the border is open. We expect this to be possibly as soon as November 2021.
We are ready for when that happens, but also, we would like to give you, our wonderful partners around the world the opportunity to book students now, for NO payment yet, to reserve a space for your students at a guaranteed lower price than what we will be charging once the borders do open.
Currently, our weekly tuition rate is NZ$405 per week for Full-time Intensive English - but we will offer you now only NZ$295 per week for any bookings made from now until the announcement of the opening of NZ border. We will also offer FREE weeks for longer term bookings. Book 24 - 35 weeks and we will give 2 weeks FREE. Book 36-48 weeks and we will give 4 weeks FREE!!!
Remember NO payment is required andthere will also be NO charge for change of dates due to airline schedules, visa delays and Government changes..
Just a booking for a student to start from Monday 29th November at the earliest is required.
Payment WILL BE required within 1 month after the announcement of New Zealand's border opening.

In mid July (postponed from April due to Covid-19 lockdown) Cleve went down to the Hawkes Bay in central North Island New Zealand, to compete in the National Cycling Championships.
As New Zealand has NO community Covid-19 it means all events, concerts, venues, games etc can run as normal. NO masks or NO social distancing. For now we are VERY lucky in New Zealand!!
It was a successful week for Cleve. First of all he came 3rd in the Individual Time Trial and then the next day he won the Road Race ? becoming the National Road Race Champion of New Zealand for his age group (50 year old men group).
Its nice that some good things are happening in 2020!

Dear Worldwide friends and colleagues around the world.
I hope you are well?
The global situation of Covid-19 seems to be always changing and perhaps getting worse and our industry seems to be suffering more than most in the world. However we are DETERMINED to survive and be around for when things improve.
In June we still had just over 90 students in our school and they are still from all over the world.
Coronavirus Covid-19 update from New Zealand
* Apart from recent returning residents who are in Government quarantine, New Zealand is Covid-19 free.
* New Zealand has had no community transmission for many weeks ? however recent Kiwis returning from overseas are testing positive but are in quarantine. There are currently 22 active cases in New Zealand.
* Immigration NZ closed the borders and they have not re-opened except for New Zealanders returning home and some essential foreign workers.
* From 8th June New Zealand was confirmed Covid-19 free and all social distancing and crowd restrictions were lifted. Movie theatres, bars and restaurants could all operate as normal. Sports events with crowds could also run as normal.
*We are working with our Government to open the borders to international students. We are hoping for September at the moment. It will most likely include self funded 2 week quarantine with tests for all students entering New Zealand.

In New Zealand it seems we are winning our battle against Covid -19.
We are now in our second week back from lockdown, with our staff and students back into our building.
We have had no deaths for almost 3 weeks and in the last week we have had only 1 new case.
We are also starting to look forward to future students being able to come to New Zealand. We are talking to our Government about quarantine periods for international students and maybe even open borders for certain countries that are also successful against Covid-19.
We will keep you updated on progress with this. Please see attached our updated special for these ever changing times.
This promotion is valid for any booking made from 25th May until 31st July.

Greetings from sunny Auckland in Autumn.
We did it!!
New Zealand is now out of lockdown, we are back in our building and the number of active Covid-19 cases in New Zealand is now very low.
Yesterday we had another day of zero new cases and 96% of all cases are now recovered.
On Monday we returned to our building and onsite classes started (we are still offering online options for students unable to come in to school).
Almost all students were VERY happy to come back to school and to see their friends and teachers IN THE FLESH!
We are hoping that as the situation continues to improve in New Zealand and in other countries around the world, that New Zealand will be able to accept new students to start coming and begin their studies.
We are talking to our Government about these options and I will continue to update you when we know more.
Our social media has photos and videos (Instagram Live) of the happy first day back at school. Please have a look if you haven't already and feel free to share on your social media.

Worldwide School Auckland New Zealand - Update 28th April 2020
Worldwide School Auckland New Zealand - Update 28th April 2020
Dear friends around the world.
How are you?
Please see the latest news for us in New Zealand and also for Worldwide School.
In New Zealand we are winning the war against Covid-19.
Once again there were only a small number of new cases. Yesterday New Zealand recorded only 5 new cases of Covid-19. There are now many more recovered cases than infected people in New Zealand.
There have been 1469 cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, 19 people have died, 7 people are in hospital and 1180 have recovered (about 80%).
After almost 5 weeks of Level 4 lockdown we are now in Level 3 lockdown from today.
Our Prime Minister said there was no widespread community transmission now in New Zealand and "we have won that battle".
Level 3 still means that we will need to run Online classes and our school building is not open. Level 3 means work that can be done safely with social distancing can reopen and takeaway foods that are "click and collect" can start (good news for our students in apartments in lockdown - they don't need to eat their home cooking for every meal!!)
However schools are not allowed to open until we reach Level 2 and then after that we must offer a combination of most students onsite and some students still studying online.
We are hoping that we will reach Level 2 on 12th May and that from that date we can return to our school building.
It is good to see that in much of the world, the situation is improving. We are hopeful that borders will start to reopen and international flights start happening in the next few months.
Please keep in touch.
Yours
Cleve

WWSE - ڷγ19 Ʈ (2020.04.09)
Dear friends around the world.
How are you?
Please see the latest news for us in New Zealand and also for Worldwide School.
It seems that New Zealand is winning its war against the Coronavirus!
New Zealand has recorded just 29 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.
Today there were 23 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 6 probable cases in New Zealand today. That brings the total number of cases to here to 1239.
There have been no additional deaths, we still have just 1 death so far, but 14 people are in hospital, with four in ICU at North Shore, Middlemore and Dunedin hospitals.
317 people have now recovered from the coronavirus.
We are now starting our 3rd week of a 4 week shutdown.
We are predicting and hoping that we will be able to re-enter our building and re-start onsite classes from Tuesday 28th April (Monday 27th is a Public Holiday in New Zealand).
We will update you as soon as we know.
For now we are continuing with Online classes and they continue to go very well.
In fact students are extending and also making progress and several students will move up a level from next week.
Well done!
We are continuing to offer some of our social and activity programmes online.
Last week and this week we ran Wednesday Pubnight online. We had Houseparties running for 2 hours.
Last week and this week we ran Thursday Yoga class online.
And we also offered Friday afternoon options online!
This weekend is Easter and so the school will be closed Friday 10th April and also Monday 13th April. We will re-open on Tuesday 14th April for another (short) week of Online classes.
For many students this is of course a worrying time and we are doing all we can to support them and keep in touch - and keep them studying.

Coronavirus Covid-19 update from New Zealand
NZ has one confirmed case. A New Zealander who was visiting Iran. This person is in isolation and no other cases have occurred.
Immigration NZ has closed the border to direct arrivals from China (Chinese can still enter provided they have spent 14 days somewhere else)
Its still okay for entry from anywhere else and while its possible restrictions will be extended, its not likely, and less so as time goes on.
The current entry restrictions from China were renewed on Monday 21st February and due again for review on Monday 2nd March. Most of us are expecting them to be lifted in the next week or two, but therell probably still be the isolation period issue.
Its summer here in New Zealand, windows and doors wide open with plenty of fresh air, so its not a risky period generally for transmission.
Life in New Zealand is pretty much continuing on as normal. No students have reported any issues with members of the public and here at Worldwide School we are keeping our eyes open and monitoring the situation but are running the school and all our programmes as we normally would. There is still a chance of course that New Zealand, like most other countries in the world ? will get its first infection. But I am sure that New Zealand will handle the situation well.
NO NEED FOR PANIC OR WORRY AT THE MOMENT!!

Mid-week Homestay arrival policy reminder
Any students arriving on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday will have to pay a daily surcharge of NZ$25 for each extra mid-week day. This is to cover food and power that the student may use while in the house during the day and in cases where a homestay family member has to take a day off work. In addition all mid week arrival student MUST book and pay for Airport pick up unless a local based partner is arranging pick up. Early arrival students are encouraged to leave the house during the day to do some sightseeing and also visit the school to take their pre test.
Mid-week arrival students will also not be able to start classes until the following week.
Please also note that there will be limited homestay availability for mid-week arrivals as many host families are not willing to take a student not arriving at the weekend.
Worldwide Online
At Worldwide School we have our very unique and fantastic Online Learning Management System.
We created this in 2011 and have continued to update and improve it.
It REALLY is one of Worldwide Schools special and fantastic USPs.
Worldwide Online is a communications portal between the student and the school. The student can use the system anywhere, anytime, to access messages from teachers, counsellors and Worldwide staff. They can also get recent Worldwide School news and events, Auckland news and events as well as read their monthly reports, check attendance and check their fortnightly progress test scores.
More importantly, Worldwide Online will help students with their learning. They can do homework through the system, access recommended webpages and do exercises to help them with reading, writing, grammar, listening and vocabulary. They can choose to practice whatever they need and accelerate their learning.
Teachers will be able to see results and give feedback on progress.
The wonderful Worldwide teachers
Get to know our teachers.
At Worldwide School they are all native speaker level, highly qualified and very experienced.
The average time as a teacher at Worldwide School is 9 years. Some of our teachers have been with us for over 15 years.
They are a BIG part of the strength and popularity of Worldwide School.
The 60th birthday of Auckland Harbour Bridge will be celebrated with another amazing Vector Lights show from 29 May - 3 June

The light show will play every 30 minutes from 6 - 10pm. Watch it live with its accompanying soundtrack at vector.co.nz/lights#VisitAuckland

Dear Worldwide friends and partners. Greetings and welcome to the April 2019 Worldwide School of English email newsletter.
We have been having an absolutely fantastic Summer. Lucky for the students that have been in New Zealand during this time.
As we head into Autumn, if you have any students arriving in the next few months please remind them to be ready for mixed weather ? could be hot or could be cool ? and anything in-between (several times in one day!!)
Worldwide's nationality mixture March 2019:
As usual ? MANY students from MANY different countries.
Working in New Zealand
As everyone knows, New Zealand has a very strong economy with plenty of working opportunities.
The annual average unemployment rate in Auckland was 4.2% in December 2018, down from 4.6% a year earlier. The unemployment rate in Auckland was lower than in New Zealand, where the unemployment rate averaged 4.3% over the year to December 2018.
With our Job Club Class and Function Staff partnership ? nearly ALL our students can find part time work during their studies (if they have a Student Visa or a Working Holiday Visa).
The news has just got even better for our students though!
The New Zealand minimum wage has just increased to $17.70 with an extra $1.41 if holiday pay is included
Tragedy in Christchurch
Many thanks to those who sent kind messages after the tragedy that was the Christchurch shootings last month.
It was a big shock for us in New Zealand.
We thought these things happen only in other countries. New Zealand is famous for its tolerance and friendliness and welcoming of all kinds of people.
But we have learned that the problems of the world can sometimes come to our beautiful and usually peaceful country.
Here are the facts.
One man, who travelled from Australia a few years ago attacked 2 Mosques in the city of Christchurch and killed many people.
This kind of terrorism has never happened before.
He was not from New Zealand.
He was caught quickly.
There is NO evidence of any other terror cells in New Zealand.
New Zealand has guns because we have many farms and farmers need guns to shoot pests on their land.
Most New Zealand people do not have guns. Even the Police in New Zealand do NOT carry guns.
Since the attack there have been changes to our gun laws banning automatic rifles. This happened very quickly and is similar to what happened in Australia 25 years ago when they had their worst ever mass shooting.
New Zealand is a very peaceful and welcoming place and since the attacks there have been many stories and many examples of kindness and sympathy for all people from other countries and other religions, in particular our Muslim brothers and sisters.
New Zealand is still a peaceful, loving country and one of the safest countries in the world to visit.
If you or any of your students have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask.
IELTS courses at Worldwide School
We are running TWO IELTS courses at Worldwide School.
IELTS 4 and IELTS 5
IELTS 4 is for Worldwide School level 4 students (CEFR B1-B2) that would like to progress to IELTS 5 course but their English level is not high enough yet to join that class. It is a get ready for IELTS with a focus on more reading and writing skills than a General English Level 4 class.
As with our main IELTS 5, it is morning only class option with extra study material in afternoon available in the school Library. There is no extra cost (same fee as General English) and runs with a maximum of 18 students per class. 4 weeks is the minimum sign up period.
IELTS 5 is our regular class for students wanting to take the IELTS exam
We will be holding a party in late June (let us know if you will be in Auckland that month) as well as offering some great prizes for our best agents this year. (FREE trips to NZ will be some of them ? watch out for more news on that soon)

New Zealand voted the NUMBER ONE country in the world for study abroad!
We know New Zealand is the best place in the world to study.
Due to the high volume of visa applications currently being received, we strongly recommend applicants submit their application as early as possible prior to their intended travel date. With respect to student visa applications, applicants should submit their application at least 8 weeks ahead of their intended travel date. This gives INZ time to assess the application and gather more information from the applicant if needed. INZ encourages visitor and student visa applicants to apply using our Immigration Online system via the INZ website. It's faster and easier to apply online. Applicants can upload supporting documents and photographs and pay for their application online.
Please also make sure you complete the forms properly and include all supporting documentation.
Work Rights for Student Visas
Great news for us all.
We have recently heard that the Immigration Minister has decided "not to review in-study work rights at this time." Immigration NZ staff recommended the Minister leave the settings as they are for English Language students and he agreed. It's therefore status quo and there will be no change to this wonderful and popular policy setting for a long time.
Remember Worldwide School has a FREE Job Club and partnership with the biggest hospitality employer in New Zealand.

New Zealand was ranked the #1 country in the world for educating students for the future, according to a report by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) released late last year.

The Government has just announced that English language students from January 2014 can now work part time.
The rules are almost the same as Australia.
* Any student visa student can work part time (from 14 weeks).
* There is NO more IELTS requirement
* They can work 20 hours per week
The only rule that is different to Australia is that the student must go to an NZQA category 1 school. The good news here is that Worldwide School IS a category 1 school!
Please find attached more information about Worldwide School will offer from January 2014.
