      IB Primary Years Programme (Reception - Year 5)
      The framework focuses on the holistic growth of the child based on the inquiry approach to teaching and learning. In the PYP, the aim is to assist globally-minded citizens who are:

      The PYP framework incorporates a balance between five essential elements: knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and action. Subjects/topics within this transdisciplinary programme of inquiry are identified in terms of six themes: Who we are/Where we are in place and time/How we express ourselves/How the world works/How we organise ourselves/Sharing the planet

      IB Middle Years Programme (Years 6 - 10)
      The needs of our Middle School students are addressed through our Home Group structure and a curriculum that is relevant to today's rapidly changing world.
      Specialist teachers support the Home Group teacher to deliver the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP is a student-centred curriculum which spans five years of learning, commencing in Year 6 and concluding in Year 10 (Senior School).
      The MYP is based on three fundamental concepts:.Holistic learning/Intercultural awareness/Communication
      The curriculum model provides a core of eight disciplines of study, through which five transdisciplinary understandings or Areas of Interaction are developed. The eight subject groups are:
      Language A: Language of instruction (English)/Language B: French/Indonesian/Humanities History and Geography/Sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics/Arts: Visual Arts and Performing Arts/Physica Educationn/Technology
      The Areas of Interaction are: Approaches to Learning/Community and Service/Health and Social Education/Environments/Human Ingenuity

      IB Diploma Programme (Years 11 - 12)
      The IB Diploma is an internationally recognised matriculation certificate which qualifies students for entry into overseas universities as well as Australian universities.
      To be eligible for the Diploma, candidates are required to complete the following to a satisfactory standard:
      Six academic subjects/A Theory of Knowledge course/An Extended Essay/Creativity Action and Service (CAS)
      Students must choose one option from each of the following six groups:
      1.Group 1 Language A (first language)
      2.Group 2 Language B (second language: French/Indonesian/English/Spanish ab initio)
      3.Group 3 Study of Individuals in Society (History, Economics, Business and Management and Psychology)
      4.Group 4 Experimental Sciences (Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Sports, Exercise and Health Science)
      5.Group 5 Mathematics (Mathematics, Mathematical Studies)
      6.Group 6 Visual Art/Theatre/Music or another choice from Groups 2, 3 or 4
      The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is awarded to students who successfully complete their senior secondary education. The Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA) administers the SACE for all schools in South Australia qualifying students for admission to universities throughout Australia.

      SACE (Years 11 - 12)
      The SACE meets community expectations that school-leavers should have:
      Developed skills and knowledge for successful participation in Australian society/Achieved a certain level of literacy/Studied a broad range of subjects/Been equipped to undertake further studies and employment
      Students studying for the SACE undertake a course of subjects, usually over 2 years; Stage 1 (Year 11) and Stage 2 (Year 12).

      Special Programmes
      At Mercedes College, there are a range of programmes that seek to develop and encourage the potential of each student. These programmes aim to provide experiences and support for those students who have been identified as having specific needs and requiring individual attention.
      Gifted and Talented Programme
      The programme provides experiences that develop the intellectual, creative, social and emotional abilities of gifted and talented children through enrichment, extension and acceleration.
      Special Needs Programme
      This broad programme includes a range of strategies including curriculum and assessment modification for teachers to address the needs of students with specific learning difficulties.
      Learning Assistance Programme
      The Learning Assistance Programme (LAP) is a student-centred programme that provides individual support for students from Reception to Year 12 through positive parent, Senior student and community participation.
      Study Extension Programme
      The Study Extension Programme (STEP) has been in operation for the past 20 years at Mercedes College. It has evolved over that time to offer an approach to learning that endeavours to challenge students both academically and on a personal level.
      Self-confidence, understanding others, organising time, setting objectives, working together, asking questions and helping those less fortunate are just a few of the needs that have the potential to make a difference to one¡¯s life that the programme attempts to address.
      Study Skills Programme
      Senior School students who require assistance with the management of their time or coordinating assessment tasks may be recommended for the after school hours Study Skills Programme.
