Click on the icons to check out the latest information! MLI's Update on COVID-19 in Los Angeles Dear valuable partners, Thank you for your continued support of Mentor Language Institute. I would like to share with you information relating to: ?The Coronavirus situation in LA and dates of resuming classes at MLI ?The five-month rule for F1 Visa students ?When will classes resume on-campus? Los Angeles is still experiencing its Stay-at-home order period. As of right now, this order extends to May 15th. In the instance that this period is extended, the school opening date will change as well. However, the spread of Coronavirus infection has been decreasing in California and Los Angeles. If the stay-at-home order ends on May 15th, MLI will resume classes on campus at the start date of the next module, which is June 1st. * Having said that, this reopening date is tentative based on the current state of Los Angeles's Coronavirus situation. Regardless, we will make an announcement when we confirm the date of re-opening our campus. ?Lifting of the five-month rule (for F1 visa students) For student visa (F1) holders who have returned to their home countries, there used to be a five-month rule that applied to those F1 visa holders who stayed out of the U.S. for more than five months. The rule stated that if an F1 visa holder was out of the U.S. more than five months, this student¡¯s visa would expire and they would be required to reapply for the student visa in order to study in the U.S again for an extended period of time. This even applied to students whose initial expiration date hadn¡¯t been met yet. However, this rule no longer applies, as the five-month rule has been lifted; therefore, the student¡¯s visa will remain valid as long as the initial expiration date stated on the student¡¯s visa hasn¡¯t yet been met. This means that it is no longer necessary for students to apply for a student visa again when studying in the U.S., as long as their initial F1 visa is valid . (A new I-20 will still be required, though.) If you have any questions or concerns, we are always happy to help. Thank you.
