| 학교소개 및 특징 | 1881년 설립된 스토스농업학교가 발전한 것으로. 이 학교는 찰스 스토스(Charles Storrs)와 오거스터스 스토스 형제가 청소년을 위한 학교를 설립하도록 주(州)에 기부한 토지와 기금을 운용하기 위하여 코네티컷주의회가 제정한 법률에 의하여 설립되었습니다. 1893년 주의회는 학교를 스토스농업대학으로 개편하고, 코네티컷주의 랜드그랜트칼리지로 지정하였습니다. 또한 이 해부터 여학생의 입학이 허가되어 남녀공학대학이 되었습니다. 1899년 교명을 코네티컷농업대학으로 변경하였다가, 1933년 코네티컷주립대학으로 고쳤습니다. 1939년 코네티컷대학교로 승격하고, 1940년 기존의 학과들을 단과대학으로 재편하고, 대학원을 신설하였으며. 1949년에 최초의 박사학위를 수여하였습니다. 하트퍼드에서 동쪽으로 40km 떨어진 톨랜드 카운티(Tolland County)의 스토스 전원지역에 주 캠퍼스에 위치하며 자동차로는 뉴욕시에서 약 2시간 30분, 보스턴에서 약 1시간 20분, 주도인 하트퍼드에서는 약 30분이 걸립니다. 그밖에 파밍턴에 헬스센터가 있는 등 코네티컷주 곳곳에 캠퍼스가 자리 잡고 있습니다. 부속시설로 도서관, 학습자료센터, 밸러드연구소•인형극박물관, 현대미술관, 코네티컷고고학센터, 코네티컷주립자연사박물관, 윌리엄 벤턴 예술박물관, 코네티컷레퍼토리극장, 천문대, 라디오방송국 등이 있습니다. 코네티컷주는 원래 미국 인디언 모히컨족이 살았던 주로서 지금은 백인계 부자들이 모여사는 대표적인 주며 주민소득기준이 미국에서도 상위권에 속해 있고 대부분의 재학생들이 백인이면 소수민족 비율이 매우 적은편입니다. 워낙이 명문 사립대학들이 모여 있다 보니 상대적으로 인지도나 명성이 떨어지는 편이기는 하나 인지도에 비해서는 우수한 프로그램을 제공하는 명문 주립대중 하나입니다. 농학관련 프로그램이 유명하며, 대학원의 경우 사회과학계열이 강세이며 외국학생들은 상대적으로 장학금 지원이 괜찮은 공대를 지원하는 것이 유리한 편입니다. 학교가 속해있는 Storrs는 매우 작은 시골 도시로 대학을 제외하면 문화시설이 거의 없는 편이라고 할 수 있습니다. 따라서 2-3시간정도 거리에 있는 뉴욕이나 보스톤 지역으로 주말이면 학생들이 놀러 다니는 면이 있습니다.
