| 학교소개 및 특징 | 1839년 미시시피강 서부직역에 설립된 최초의 주립대학교인 미주리대학교는 1841년 문리과대학을 설립하고, 1843년 제 1회 졸업생 2명을 배출하였습니다. 1867년 처음으로 여학생의 입학이 허용되었고, 같은 해 교육대학이 설립되었습니다. 1870년 랜드그랜트칼리지가 되면서 농과대학을 설립하고, 롤라지역에 광산·야금대학을 설립함으로써 캠퍼스를 2곳에 두게 되었습니다. 1872년 법과대학과 의과대학을 설립하고, 1877년 공과대학이 설립되었습니다. 1908년 세계 최초로 신문대학을 설립한 후 1963년 사립대학인 캔자스시티대학교를 합병하고, 세인트루이스 캠퍼스를 개설함으로써 4개 캠퍼스로 구성된 종합대학교가 되었습니다. 미국 내 최상위 대학 가운데 하나인 미주리대학교는 교육, 연구 분야에 두각을 보이고 있으며 미주리주에서는 유일하게 미국 대학협회(Association of American Universities) 회원으로 등록되었습니다. 현재 농업·식품·천연자원대학(College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources), 예술과학대학(College of Arts and Science), 경영대학(Trulaske College of Business), 교육대학(College of Education), 공과대학(College of Engineering), 보건직업대학(School of Health Professions), 인간환경과학대학(College of Human Environmental Sciences), 정보과학·학습기술대학(School of Information Science and Learning Technologies), 언론대학(School of Journalism), 법과대학(School of Law), 의과대학(School of Medicine), 간호대학(Sinclair School of Nursing), 수의약대학(College of Veterinary Medicine), 등 13개 단과대학과 대학원으로 구성되어 있습니다. 부설시설로 학습자료 센터, 미술관, 자연사박물관, 천문대, 정보자유 센터, 라디오와 텔레비전 방송국 등이 있습니다. 미주리 대학은 저널리즘, 분쟁해결, 가정의학, 교내 작문 프로그램을 포함한 다양한 분야에서 매우 인정 받고 있습니다. 하나의 캠퍼스에 의학, 수의학, 법학대학을 보유한 6개뿐인 주립대학중 하나인 미주리대학은 많은 전문 분야 인력을 배출하고 있습니다. 미주리 대학이 위치한 컬럼비아는 세인트루이스와 캔자스시티의 중간지점인 미주리강 근처에 위치합니다. 1920년에 발달한 고속도로망에 의해 교통의 요지로 주목받았으며 유제품, 벽돌, 타일 등을 생산하고 인쇄업도 발달하였습니다. 도시경제에 여러 교육기관과 전문단체 및 보험회사가 주요역할을 하고 있습니다. |
