학교소개 및 특징	에모리 대학교(Emory University)는 1836년 조지아감리교회에 의해 설립되었으며, 조지아감리교회의 유명한 목사인 John Emory의 이름을 따서 Emory College라는 이름으로 시작 되었습니다. 설립 후 지속적으로 재정적인 어려움을 겪었으나, 현재는 미국에서 가장 많은 재산을 갖고 있는 대학 중 하나로 현재 보유 재산이 45억 달러에 달합니다. 이러한 재정적 여유는 코카콜라의 지원에서부터 시작 되었습니다. 1915년 코카콜라 창립자인 Asa Candler가 애틀랜다의 넓은 부지를 대학에 기증했고, 이 후에도 Robert Woodruff, Roberto Crispulo Goizueta 등 코카콜라와 관련된 유명이사들의 지속적인 지원이 이어지면서 대학발전에 많음 도움을 받았습니다. 이에 1915년 애틀랜타의 부지로 캠퍼스를 이전하고 학교명을 Emory University로 바꾸었으며, 종합대학으로 승격하였고, 이처럼 코카콜라에서 후원하고 있는 대학이라고 하여 '코카콜라 대학'이라는 별명도 갖고 있습니다. 미국에서 학문적으로 가장 빠르게 발전하고 있는 사립대학으로 평가받고 있으며, 2006년 Newsweek에서 발표한 New Ivy League 25개 대학 중 하나 입니다. 일반 대학원보다는 학부와 전문대학원과정이 중심으로, 현재 인문과학대학인 Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Oxford College, 경영대학(원)인 Goizueta Business School, 간호대학인 Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, 일반대학원과정을 제공하고 있는 Laney School of Graduate Studies, 법학대학원인 School of Law, 의과대학원인 School of Medicine, 공공보건대학원인 Rollins School of Public Health, 신학대학원인 Candler School of Theology, 총 9개 단과대학(원)으로 구성되어 있습니다. 모든 프로그램이 그 우수성을 인정받고 있으나, 그 중에서도 특히 경영대학원, 법학대학원, 의과대학원, 신학대학원은 미국 최고 수준으로 인정받고 있으며, 에모리 대학에서 운영하고 있는 병원은 미국 남부에서 최고로 알려져 있으며, 이 외에도 카터센터, 미국질방예방통제센터 등의 기관과 협력한 다양하고 수준높은 학문연구로도 주목 받고 있습니다. 에모리 대학교는 풍부한 재정을 보유하고 있는 만큼 학생 재정지원도 좋은 편이어서 재정보조를 받고 있는 학생의 비율이 76%에 이르며, 비슷한 수준의 다른 대학들보다 외국학생에 대한 재정지원(인문계열 대학원 프로그램 포함) 상황도 비교적 우수하며, 또한 학교시설 및 교육에도 전폭적인 지원을 아끼지 않고 있습니다. 박물관처럼 넓은 현대적인 도서관, 최고 수준의 기숙시설, 최신 연구 시설 등을 갖추고 있으며, 현재도 많은 건물 및 시설을 확충하고 있습니다. 교내 대부분의 시설이 최신식이며 깨끗하고 현대적이어서 면학분위기도 우수하다. 뿐만 아니라 풍부한 재정으로 해마다 타 명문대에서 스타급 교수진들을 스카우트 해오고 있으며, 이전 미국 대통령 Jimmy Carter, 부커상(Booker Prize) 수상자인 소설가 Sir Salman Rushie, XIV Dalai Lama, 퓰리처상(Pulitzer Prize) 수상자인 시인 Natasha Trethewey, 내과의사이자 CNN 의학담당 수석기자인 Dr. Sanjay Gupta 등도 교수진으로 활동하고 있습니다. 이러한 노력으로 현재 에모리 대학교은 앞으로 미국 최고의 사립대학이 될 것이라는 평가를 받고 있다. 에모리 대학교의 경우 학부과정을 공부하는 방법은 크게 2가지로 볼 수 있다. 첫번째는 Emory College로 입학하여 학부과정을 마치는 것이고, 두번째는 옥스포드에 있는 Oxford College로 입학하여 첫 2년의 학업을 마친 후 애틀란타에 있는 본 캠퍼스의 3학년으로 편입하여 3-4학년 과정을 마치는 것 입니다. 단, 경영학 또는 간호학을 공부하고자 하는 학생은 Goizueta Business School와 Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing의 학부과정에 지원해야 하며 1-2학년 학생들은 의무적으로 캠퍼스 내에서 거주, 3-4학년이 되면 캠퍼스 밖에서 거주할 수 있으나 캠퍼스 내 환경이 워낙 우수하여 대부분의 학생들이 캠퍼스 내에 생활하게 됩니다.
