South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense will be co-chairing with the United States' Department of State and Department of Defense the newly established Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group.

The EDSCG is to encompass diplomacy, information, and military coordination, as well as economic elements.
South Korea sees big significance in the new dialogue. "The EDSCG is meaningful in that it is a comprehensive mechanism on policy and strategy levels,... that can maximize integrated deterrence against North Korea."
So far, existing committees on deterrence were generally confined to military level strategy issues.
