In January we have 85 students and 20 different nationalities. We have 13 Korean students (15%) but this falls to 9 Koreans at the end of February.
The top nationalities are Saudi (17%), Korean (15%), Japanese (10%), Switzerland/Colombia/Turkey (5%). Other nationalities include French, German, Belgian, Taiwanese, Thai, Brazilian, Dutch and Russian.

We have a promotion for students studying a for 24 or more weeks on our “Study Year Programme”. Basically 24+ 2 free weeks, 34+ 3 free weeks.
ELC are very pleased to announce that they have reached agreement and are about to exchange contracts with Richard Day for the acquisition of EiC by ELC. This will bring together 3 of the oldest, most prestigious schools in the UK. This is very much a merger of like-minded schools with a passion and commitment to excellence in customer service. The schools are well-known to each other and have collaborated frequently over many years. In order to maintain the high levels of customer service and quality, bookings, accommodation etc will continue to be managed locally. We will very much continue to offer the family feel at each centre that we are recognised for.
ELC Chief Executive, Phil Hopkins, will have overall responsibility for the organisation. Nigel Paramor will remain as Principal of English in Chester. Richard Day will continue to play a major role, using his vast experience of the industry to benefit the enlarged charity.

ELC is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1962. In 2010 it merged with Eastbourne School of English, founded in 1936. English in Chester was founded in 1976. All 3 schools are highly-ranked Centres of Excellence based on EL Gazette’s review of British Council inspection results, members of TEN, IALC and Quality English.
Bookings made before the 30 November are eligible for 2017 tuition prices in 2018.

1. Cambridge Examination courses
This is just a quick message to confirm that we will be running intensive, guaranteed classes at FCE, CAE and CPE level starting 21 March 2016.
All courses are 12 weeks. We will also consider bookings of a shorter duration if a student has the required level.
Maximum class size at each level is 12. There are 25 lessons per week (18.75 hours) with lessons Monday to Friday between 9.00 and 14.30.
2. Accommodation Options
We currently still have some but limited availability in the self-catering residence and student house during the Cambridge course dates (but no availability issues with homestay).

I have 2 pieces of ELC news for you:
1. I am pleased to tell you that from February we will be offering more self-catering accommodation. In addition to the self-catering ensuite rooms at the Britannia Study Hotel, we will be offering self-catering accommodation in a student house from February 2014. The house will have a combination of room types including:
- studio flat with ensuite bathroom and sole use of kitchen for single or double occupancy
- single rooms with ensuite bathroom and shared kitchen
- single rooms with shared bathrooms and shared kitchen
The aim is to provide a more economical self-catering option with the single rooms costing between £140 and £190 per week and the studio costing £220 per week for single occupancy and £150 per person per week for double occupancy.
The house is 20 minutes’ walk from ELC, 5 minutes’ walk to shops and a supermarket and about 25 minutes’ walk from the centre of Brighton. (A = student house;
2. We were busy over Christmas refurbishing our Study Centre which is now open every afternoon after lessons until 17.30 and always has a qualified teacher there to help students with further study.

I am delighted to give you further information about our new self-catering accommodation option. We have 6 rooms available for exclusive use of ELC students consisting of…
· 4 single room (shared kitchen, shared bathroom) - £165 per week
· 1 single room (ensuite, shared kitchen) - £200 per week
· 1 studio flat (own bathroom, own kitchen) - £250 per week for single occupancy; £160 per person per week for double occupancy

Key points are
Cancellation and Refund Policy
9. Student House: A minimum 4 weeks’ notice in writing must be given to cancel or curtail a booking in the student house. In the case that fewer than 4 weeks’ notice is given, the first 4 weeks of student house accommodation is non-refundable.
Residence and Student House Accommodation
27. This accommodation is only available for complete calendar weeks (Sunday to Sunday) and is charged in units of 1 week.
28. If you take a holiday during your stay and are away, you will still be charged the full rate for the period of absence.
29. Payments must be made to ELC. Full fees must be paid in advance at the time of booking in order to reserve the room for the requested period of time.
30. We cannot postpone bookings for the residence or student house if you inform us 28 or fewer days before the arrival date. You are still liable for the fees of your original accommodation booking, if you give us 28 days or fewer notice.
31. For student house accommodation, you will be asked for your credit card details at the time of booking. This is to cover the cost of any breakages or damage to the property up to a maximum of £300.
32. If you lose your key, you will be charged extra to cover the cost of replacement.

We will be running full 12-week dedicated CPE only preparation courses (25 lessons/week – 18.75 hours) starting in March and September:
· 24 March to 13 June 2014
· 15 September to 5 December 2014
Tuition fees are £3060 for 12 weeks. The fees include:
- all course books/materials including CPE test book
- e-learning from point of booking to 3 months after the course ends
- lessons as normal on all public holidays
In addition, the exam fee is GBP137 and there is a registration fee of GBP90.
We have homestay accommodation available for GBP130 per week or ensuite residential accommodation available for GBP220 per week.
